3 Day Workout

By Serena Daniels

When it comes to working out, 3 workouts a week is the absolute minimum you should be doing. Of course, if you have an incredibly active lifestyle, then a 3 day workout at the gym is not so bad.

But most of us tend to have desk jobs and aren’t running after kids all day, let alone living on salad and soy. And although going to the gym should be as important as brushing your teeth, we tend to put it on hold if there is anything remotely more interesting to do in its place.

A 3 day workout, however, is manageable for most women, so there’s no excuse why you shouldn’t be able to complete this 3 day workout each and every week.

Avoid consecutive workouts

If possible, separate your 3 day workout with at least one rest day in between, so that your workout looks something like this:

Day 1: Workout
Day 2: Rest
Day 3: Workout
Day 4: Rest
Day 5: Rest
Day 6: Workout
Day 7: Rest

Keep in mind that when 1 hour per day for 3 days is all you have to devote to keeping fit, you cannot afford to turn your gym visits into social affairs. You need to get in, get your sweat on, and get out. It’s not going to be that simple at first, but once you get into your routine, it’ll become habitual.

The suggested workout routine listed below is just that, a suggestion. If there is a body part you feel needs to be better developed or you have problems of some sort with certain areas, then hire a personal trainer to help you develop a routine that’s more suitable.

Personally, when I have a week when I can’t get to the gym that often, I tend to superset my exercises, meaning that I go immediately from one exercise to the next without rest. Then I perform a hardcore cardio workout such as running, high intensity elliptical training or jumping rope to close off my workout.

Also, keep in mind that the amount of weight you need to use should be heavy enough that you’re muscles are fatigued by the last repetition.

Day 1
Areas of Concentration: Legs, Glutes, Abs

3 day workout exercise #1
Barbell Squats

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 12, 12, 12
With a barbell placed atop your trapezoids, your feet slightly more than shoulder apart, stick your butt out, and bend your knees until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Make sure to keep your abdominal muscles contracted, your back straight and your heels planted in the ground.

Return to the starting position and repeat.

3 day workout exercise #2
Walking Lunges
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 12, 12, 12
Hold a dumbbell in each hand, and keep your back straight, step forward with your right leg and bend your knee so that your thigh is parallel to the ground. Your left leg’s calf should also be parallel to the ground. Now bring your left leg up and step forward with it so that your thigh is parallel to the ground. This counts as one repetition.

3 day workout exercise #3
Barbell Deadlifts
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 10, 10, 10
Hold a barbell with your hands more than shoulder width apart with one arm prone (palm facing you) and the other supine (palm facing outward). Keeping the barbell close to your legs, slowly lower it down toward your shins, stop mid-way and then raise it back to the starting position. Pull your shoulders back and squeeze your glutes when you reach the top.

This is an advanced exercise and requires a lot of coordination, so make sure to look in a mirror (stand parallel to it) so that you can be certain your back is straight and your abs tight throughout the exercise.

3 day workout exercise #4
Lying leg lifts
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 20, 20, 20
Lie flat on your back with your legs closed. Lift your legs about six to 12 inches off the ground, hold for two seconds and return to starting position. Perform each repetition slowly and in a controlled manner.

3 day workout exercise #5
Crunches
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 20, 20, 20
Lie flat on your back with your hands across your chest or behind your head and your elbows pointing outward on either side. Contract your abs and lift your shoulders and upper back off the ground, hold for two seconds, then return to starting position. Make sure to keep your abs contracted throughout the exercise.

Cardio
Time: 30 minutes
Type: Interval
No matter what cardio exercise you choose to do, spend two minutes moving at a comfortable pace and one minute moving as fast as you can without passing out.

Day 2
Areas of Concentration: Arms, Abs

3 day workout exercise #1
Lateral/Front Dumbbell Raises
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 10, 10, 10
Hold a dumbbell in each hand, and stand with feet a little more than shoulder width apart, knees bent slightly. With palms facing down, keep your arms straight (but don’t lock your elbows) and lift your arms up in front of you, then out to the sides and back down. That counts as one repetition.

3 day workout exercise #2
Standing Barbell Curls
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 12, 12, 12
With a barbell in hand, palms facing out, stand with your legs slightly more than shoulder-width apart, and raise the barbell toward your shoulders, making sure not to let your elbows move away from your sides. Return to the starting position.

3 day workout exercise #3
Dumbbell Kickbacks
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 10, 10, 10
Place one hand on your knee, bend your knees slightly and bend at the hip until your back is parallel to the floor (make sure, however, to keep your back straight). With the other hand, hold a dumbbell and, keeping your elbow close to your side, “kick” your forearm back toward the ceiling until it’s parallel to the floor. Return to the starting position slowly and repeat.

3 day workout exercise #4
Triceps Pressdowns
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 12, 12, 12
Attach a revolving straight bar to the cable machine and grip it so that your palms are facing down and your thumbs are about five inches apart. Lock your elbows against your sides at a 90-degree angle. Push the bar down toward your legs and squeeze your triceps as you straighten your arms.

3 day workout exercise #5
Hanging Leg Raises
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 20, 20, 20
Hang from a lat pull-up bar with a shoulder-wide grip, arms fully extended. Raise your legs until they’re parallel to the floor, hold for a second, and lower them slowly, making sure not to swing your legs. Start off with six repetitions and work your way up to 20.

3 day workout exercise #6
Knee-Ups
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 20, 20, 20
Sit on the edge of a bench and hold the side to maintain your balance. Extend your legs straight out, then bend your knees and bring them in toward your chest. Hold this position for a second, then return to the starting position.

Cardio
Time: 30 minutes
Type: Light jogging
If you have problems with your knees, then instead of jogging, opt for a machine that has no impact like a bicycle or elliptical machine, but remain at a pace that will put you in the fat-burning zone.

Day 3
Areas of Concentration: Back, Chest, Abs

3 day workout exercise #1
Dumbbell Rows
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 12, 12, 12
With your feet shoulder-width apart and your body bent at the hips, keep your back straight (parallel to the ground) and hold the dumbbells directly in front of you, palms facing your legs. Upon lifting, turn your palms to the sides, keeping your arms close to your sides, and lift your arms up as high as you can. Lower slowly and repeat.

3 day workout exercise #2
Bench Press
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 10, 10, 10
Lie on the bench, making sure that your eyes are directly underneath the bar. Place your arms about a foot more than shoulder width apart on either side and lower the barbell to the middle of your chest without letting the bar actually touch your chest. Your lower back should be in contact with the bench at all times.

You may need a spot for this exercise and if you don’t have one (or refuse to ask the hot guy to help you), then do this same exercise with dumbbells.

3 day workout exercise #3
Good Mornings
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 12, 12, 12
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and place a barbell over your shoulders. Keep your legs rigid and your back straight as you bend forward at the hips until your body is parallel to the ground. Press your heels into the ground as you make your way back up. Make sure you keep your core tight throughout this exercise.

3 day workout exercise #4
Decline Dumbbell Flyes
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 10, 10, 10
Lie on a decline bench and hold the dumbbells at arm’s length by your sides, allowing for a slight bend in your elbows. Raise your arms overhead, hold for a second and lower slowly to the starting position.

3 day workout exercise #5
Bent Knee Abdominal Hip Raises
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 15, 15, 15
Lie down with your back on the floor. Place your hands by your sides and bend your knees, keeping your feet a couple of inches off the floor at all times. Slowly raise your pelvis and knees toward your chest while simultaneously raising your head and shoulders, hold for a second, and return to the starting position.

3 day workout exercise #6
Exercise Ball Crunch
Sets:
3
Repetitions: 20, 20, 20
Lie down on the floor and place your calves on an exercise ball, keeping your knees at a 90-degree angle. Place your arms behind your head, making sure your elbows remain in line with your ears at all times. As you push your lower back into the ground, raise your shoulders off the floor about five inches, hold for a second and lower to the starting position.

Cardio
Time: 30 minutes
Type: Interval
Remember: Two minutes of light exercise and one minute of very high intensity.

3 day workout plan

If the above 3 day workout is combined with a clean diet and regular movement throughout your day, you will definitely see results.

Feed your body and give it some exercise, and it will work like a well-oiled machine.

Work it out.

7 Ways To Cut Cell Phone Costs

By Vanessa Cohen

Cellular phones are a spectacular invention. They offer women an extra sense of safety, as well as the knowledge that they can call up their buddies to talk about having dumped their boyfriend no more than 30 seconds ago.

But there is a negative side to cell phones: the billing. It seems that most of us are being milked out of every penny via our cell phones and it’s time you started learning how to cut cell phone costs so you can save a couple of bucks. You need to start paying attention to what you’re being charged.

With a little effort, you can save upwards of $300 a year just by learning how you can cut cell phone costs and making some simple changes to your cell phone’s options, your phone habits and your service provider.

Here, now, are some ways to cut cell phone costs every time you dial.

Cut cell phone costs tip #1
Get a deal on what you use most often

Do you text message all day long? Do you spend most of your time on the phone during the day? If so, there are plans available to suit your particular needs.

Figure out what you want out of your plan via your cell phone habits, and call up your company and make the changes ASAP.

Cut cell phone costs tip #2
Use the same carrier as buddies
If you have a select few with whom you speak on a regular basis (your best girl friend, your boyfriend, your parents), then why not switch to the same company? Most companies offer deals on in-network calls.

The deal? Free calls within your network. That way, when you call up the people you speak with the most, you won’t be charged anything.

Cut cell phone costs tip #3
Forward your calls
If you work at home or have a lax work environment, forward your calls to your home or office, that way, your phone won’t be charged for the calls and you won’t be wasting precious minutes.

Of course, if your phone rings all day long, forwarding calls to your workplace probably isn’t the smartest idea. What you can then do is forward your calls to your answering machine on your cell or at home.

Cut cell phone costs tip #4
Get free evening & weekends
Considering most women work all day long, the need to make phone calls from your cell phone isn’t that high. But getting free evening and weekend calls is a tricky deal.

For some companies, the evening begins at 8 and sometimes 9 p.m., but there are a select few that offer up evenings starting from 7 p.m. Do your research and make sure that you’re well aware of what time your evenings start if you do opt for this option.

Cut cell phone costs tip #5
Get rollover minutes

Referred to as rollover, this option allows you to add whatever minutes you didn’t use in the month before to the current month, increasing your minutes and giving you the freedom to talk to all your friends without extra cost worries.

Some months may be slow and others may have your cell phone ringing off the hook, so make sure you look over your bill to figure how many minutes you’re not using each month (if any at all) and decide if this is the best option for you.

Cut cell phone costs tip #6
Shut it off or lock it

If you don’t lock your phone’s keypad and leave it in your purse, your phone could inadvertently end up calling people and draining your minutes.

And it gets worse; if you’re traveling (or even where you live), your phone may begin to roam (you’ll know it because it’ll say “roaming” or the like on your phone) and you will be charged for it on a per-minute basis.

A few carrier companies have eliminated this practice and I strongly recommend that you find out about your current company’s practices and their roaming options.

Cut cell phone costs tip #7
Text on the Internet

With most companies, it costs about 10¢ to send a text message and 2¢ to receive one. So if you could send your texts via another method, it would likely save you a sweet amount of cash.

Most companies allow you to send a text via their website. So the next time George sends you a text about how hot he thinks you are, you can text him back without incurring a cost if you’re already in front of a computer.

Cut cell phone costs today

There’s no doubt that cell phones have become an integral part of our lives, but with a little research and time, you can make sure your phone doesn’t cost you a limb or two.

Top 10 Biceps Exercises

By Dana Laurier

After their butts and their legs, most women want to have a pair of tight, firm arms. Building and shaping your biceps with the right biceps exercises is one of the many ways you can transform your arms and create a nice overall silhouette.

In order to see definition in your biceps, as with any other body part, you need to work it out at least once a week and perform each set to failure without using momentum.

Keep in mind that the biceps brachii (proper name for the muscle) are a small muscle group and if you overtrain them, your arms will feel shot and performing everyday tasks may become more difficult.

So while this is a top 10 list, you need not perform all 10 exercises in one workout. But because your muscles adapt to an exercise quickly, you may want to try some different biceps exercises every 6 weeks in order to keep making gains.

Here, now, are the top 10 biceps exercises.

Biceps exercises #10
EZ bar curls
An EZ Curl bar looks like a barbell but is designed with curvature at the hand grips to provide for different wrist positioning.

Stand with feet shoulder width apart and knees slightly bent. Place your hands on the innermost part of the curve and lift the bar toward your chest, keeping your elbows at your sides and your wrists locked throughout the rep.

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 8 to 12

Biceps exercises #9
Concentration dumbbell curls
Sit on the edge of a flat bench with your legs more than shoulder width apart. Grab a dumbbell with your right arm and place your elbow on the inside of your right knee, and keep your abs tight.

Start with your arm straight down, palm facing out. Lift the weight toward your shoulder slowly, hold for a second when you get to the top, squeeze your biceps and lower the weight back to the starting position.

Sets: 3 (Completing both arms counts as one)
Repetitions: 8 to 12

Biceps exercises #8
Lying cable curls

Place a straight bar on the bottom cable of the cable machine. Facing the cable machine, lie down flat and place your feet against the outer steel edges of the cable machine. With your palms facing up, curl the bar towards your chest.

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 10 to 12

Biceps exercises #7
Preacher curls
Sit on a preacher bench and place your arms shoulder width apart, ensuring that your arms are firmly pressed against the pad to your elbows. Your shoulders should be in a neutral position and not elevated. If they are, you need to adjust the height of the seat or the pad.

With palms facing up, grab the barbell and slowly lift it toward your shoulders, keeping your upper arm against the bench throughout the entire repetition.

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 10

Biceps exercises #6
Cable hammer curls
Place a rope on the lower part of the cable machine. With palms facing each other, grab the rope and pull the rope up toward your chest, ensuring that your elbows stay at your side throughout the repetition.

Try to keep your grip high up on the rope and your palms facing each other throughout the motion.

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 8 to 12

Biceps exercises #5
21s
Place your legs shoulder-width apart, keeping your knees soft. Keep your elbows firmly by your sides and with, palms facing up, pick up a barbell and lift it only until your arm is at a 90º angle. Lower it to the starting position and complete seven reps.

Immediately after you’ve done the first seven reps, your starting position will become the 90º angle and you will lift the barbell up to your chest. Repeat seven times.

Finally, your last seven repetitions will be the full range of motion, that is, you begin by holding the barbell at your thighs and lift it up toward your chest. Repeat seven times.

You’ve just completed 21 repetitions.

Sets: 2
Repetitions: 21

Biceps exercises #4
Angled dumbbell curls

Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees soft, and hold a dumbbell in each hand. Lift one dumbbell up at a time and when you do, keep the palm of your hand as far away from your shoulder as you can as you lift, ensuring that your elbow remains at your side. Alternate arms with each rep.

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 10 (For each arm)

Biceps exercises #3
Reverse grips plate curls

Holding a plate with the tips of your fingers, both palms facing down, keep your elbows by your side and lift the plate toward your chest.

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 10 to 12

Biceps exercises #2
Cross body hammer curls

Holding a dumbbell in each hand, palms facing each other, lift one dumbbell at a time keeping your palm facing inward and lift toward your opposite shoulder doing your best to keep your elbows by your sides (if it’s impossible, use a lighter weight).

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 8 to 10

Biceps exercises #1
Chin ups
One of the most difficult exercises to do, lifting your own body weight is a goal you want to achieve. Not only is it important to be able to lift your own body weight, but it’s incredibly sexy when a girl can!

Grab the chin up (you may have to jump to reach it) with palms shoulder-width apart and facing you. Keeping your body as straight as you can, lift yourself up, bending your elbows until your head or chest touches the bar. Lower yourself slowly to the starting position and repeat.

If you’re unable to lift yourself at all, begin by placing a box under you so that you can jump up and start at the top (with your chest at the bar), and lower yourself down. When that becomes easy, try to do one rep, then two, and so on until you can complete an entire set.

Sets: 3
Repetitions: 8

Awesome biceps exercises

Remember that if an exercise is way too easy, you’re either using too light a weight or using momentum to complete the repetitions.

Keep blasting those biceps.

Why Men Love Breasts

By Brandon Evans

It happens at least once a day; a girl with big, perky breasts and a plunging neckline walks by me and, for just a moment, all I can see are those two orbs of phenomenal delight and the whole world sighs with pleasure.

It’s true, breasts can make a man lose his train of thought in an instant, but it’s through no fault of his own.

We’re visual creatures who enjoy things of beauty. That’s not to imply that women are things, but rather that anything that is attractive will capture a man’s attention. For some guys, it’s sexy cars, for others it’s sexy women.

In the U.S., most men are breast men and the reason for that probably has a lot to do with the media. Beer commercials use breasts to sell their products, the Girls Gone Wild videos are all about flashing breasts, and implants are very, very popular around these parts.

But why? Why do men love breasts?

Some experts might gather that it has to do with being breastfed, but if that were the case then just as many women would be obsessed with breasts as well. No, I think the reason is a little simpler than that.

Men love breasts because we don’t have any. They’re soft, supple and feminine, and the idea of cupping them with our hands, sucking on the nipple or rubbing the area in between drives home the wild fantasies we have about them.

Add to that the fact that they are easily spotted and that many women use them as a tool to enhance their outfits, and you have yourself the most valid reasoning on earth.

Breasts are up in our faces at every turn, how can we not become mildly obsessed with them? And it’s not as though women help; so many of them tend to flaunt them, wearing bras that give just enough support but not so much that they lose their jiggle. So it’s sort of your fault that men love breasts as much as they do.

Do men love all breasts?

But don’t get me wrong; men don’t love all breasts. And contrary to popular opinion, bigger is not always better. Just as women have standards when it comes to penises, we also have standards, you know.

Saggy breasts
How many times have I taken a woman home only to discover that her perfect and beautiful breasts were nothing more than an illusion? I’ve seen those million-dollar bras come off and the breasts hit the ground. It’s very alarming.

Is it really fair? I mean, isn’t that false advertising? At least when it comes to penises, you have no clue what you’re about to get. But women… women mislead us into believing that their breasts are the most perfect pair on earth only to reveal that it was all smoke and mirrors.

Of course, I can empathize with the fact that the breasts you have are the breasts you’re dealt, but you can’t fault me for being disappointed when you remove your bra and they hit your navel.

Huge breasts
While most women think that men salivate over huge breasts, that’s usually not the case. To start, huge breasts are usually accompanied by huge everything else. Second, the bigger they are, the more they usually sag (see above).

Don’t get me wrong, a big pair of breasts is nice and all, but when they’re so big that they overtake a woman’s upper body, most of us draw the line there.

Veiny breasts
I’ve been with enough women to know that women judge not only the size of our penises, but even the way it looks esthetically. Most women don’t appreciate a veiny or two-toned penis. Well, we don’t appreciate veiny breasts.

Breasts are meant to look like smooth, soft, rounded, heavenly masses of perfect skin and small, erect nipples. To show us anything different turns our worlds upside down. Of course, I wouldn’t kick veiny breasts out of bed, but I probably wouldn’t tell her that her breasts were beautiful, either.

Salami breasts
Ugh! I can deal with all the aforementioned breast issues – except maybe the saggy breast one. But one thing’s for sure: I cannot deal with breasts that are overtaken by areolas, otherwise known as salami breasts.

I don’t why it is, but whenever I see a breast that’s covered by the areola, I feel like the rest of the woman must smell like cured meat. The worst of it is that by the time I see the horror, it’s too late and I can’t get away from the situation. Okay, I can, but I’m already hot and bothered by then so I just keep my eyes focused on something else.

But men love breasts

Don’t worry, ladies. Most often, when men fall in love with you, they can let certain things slide, just as I’m sure you do when it comes to them. But since women want a man’s honest opinion about the whole breast issue, I gave it to you straight from the hip.

And you can’t hate me for it; this is my breast opinion.

Cannot lose the baby weight

Dear Emily,

I had my baby about 7 months ago, but have not been able to drop the last 15 pounds from my pregnancy. I have been walking, dieting and doing whatever I can, but cannot seem to drop the weight.

Please help me,
Vanessa

Baby weight can be difficult to lose, but it is not impossible, so long as you commit yourself to it.

First off, if you are breastfeeding, dieting is not the ideal way to go. Your body needs more calories to feed your baby and you. Eating less only sends your body into “starvation” mode, causing it to hang on to every calorie you do give it for fear of not getting more food.

Reducing calories is not the answer; perhaps eating smaller portions and more often will help you. You also need to do more rigorous exercise than just walking because the body adapts to exercise quickly.

Invest in a fitness stroller and go for jogs with your baby. Or sign up to a gym and head out for an hour a day to do some strength training .

Fill your diet with whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and good fats, and exercise at least four days a week, and before you know it, the weight will melt off.

Emily

More sex for pregnancy?

Dear Emily,

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and have been having a lot of fun doing it, but a friend of mine told me that too much sex could hinder our chances of conceiving. Is this true?

Carol

Your friend is wrong. While having frequent sex will lower his sperm count slightly, with every ejaculation, he releases millions of sperm, so there is no fear in having sex every day. After all, all you need is one of those sperm to get pregnant.

Emily

Pregnant with genital herpes

Hi Emily,

I have genital herpes and am pregnant. I haven’t told my OBGYN and was wondering if it can be harmful to my child in any way.

Afraid

Dear Afraid,

Although quite rare, if you gave birth via your birth canal whilst having an outbreak, the outcome may result in neurological damage, mental retardation or, in the worst-case scenario, the death of your baby.

Most women who have herpes can give birth without issue, especially if they’re not having an outbreak at the time of labor, but it is better to err on the side of caution and avoid taking any chances.

I strongly recommend that you tell your OBGYN about this and work together to find the best solution for you and your baby.

Good luck,
Emily

Anorexic teenager

I think my 14-year-old daughter is starving herself. She barely eats and when she does, it’s never more than a couple of carrots or something to that effect. How can I talk to her about it without her freaking out on me? She gets defensive easily.

Joanne

Hi Joanne,

If you suspect that your daughter is not eating, the last thing you want to do is accuse her of it. To start, ask her if she can make some time to talk with you, like an appointment. When you do get to talk, voice your concerns about her recent behavior. If she begins to get defensive, hear her out and don’t interrupt her or make any accusations. As well, do not offer up simple solutions to her problem.

Your best bet would be to set up an appointment with your family doctor and ask for his professional opinion and help in the matter.

Good luck Joanne,
Emily

If there’s one thing we quickly learn growing up, it’s that not all handbags are created equal. Well, there's no need to look any further because this is the mother of all handbags.

Made of genuine leather and boasting a Burberry inspiration (sans the Burberry price), this exceptional black handbag has a zip-top closure (to ward away pickpockets) and an exterior zip pocket, so that you don’t have to empty out your handbag just to get your keys.

If that wasn’t fantastic enough, there are even built-in compartments for your mobile phone and sunglasses; God knows how I hate lugging around the massive sunglass case that my shades came with.

And if you’re like me and hate carrying your handbag around your shoulder because it causes pain - everything I own and my grandmother can be found in it - you will appreciate the handles that are comfortable enough to rest on your arm, a la Victoria Beckham et al.

So now you have no excuse; get yourself the handbag that takes you from day to night and thank me later.

The Dangers Of Office Gossip

By Jennifer Towers

Whether you’re the one doing all the talking or just standing around by the water cooler and listening, office gossip can be detrimental to your career. Things can get even worse if you’re the main topic of the gossip circulating the office.

Not only can office gossip harm a person’s career, it can also create a hostile work environment, and no one enjoys going to work when that’s the order of the day.

Of course, there are times when it’s good to know what’s going on around the office, so long as it has to do with business. Being “out of the loop” can lend itself to hindering your advancement at work.

What you need to learn to do is ignore the “Sally is a slut” talk and pay close attention to the fact that Joanne is resigning next week and her job is up for grabs.

But if you had a choice to know absolutely everything about what’s going on in the office or to know absolutely nothing, it’s probably safer too go with the latter because the minute you overhear someone badmouthing someone else, you will be implicated when the feces hits the fan.

So what can you do to avoid being involved in and contributing to office gossip? Well, here’s some valuable advice to get you started.

Office gossip tip #1
Don’t agree or disagree

Sometimes you will end up overhearing or being involved in a conversation about Sheryl and her torrid affair with the married guy in accounting. These things will occur from time to time, unless, of course, you become completely antisocial at work.

The only thing you can do is say nothing. And, above and beyond all else, do not agree or disagree about whether or not Sheryl is a skank because that will make you a contributor to the gossip, which can spell the end of your climb up the ladder.

Office gossip tip #2
Don’t hang around the office gossip

There might be many secrets being whispered about around your office, but there’s no doubt as to who the 4-1-1 is, and, although it’s in your best interest to be nice to this person, you do not, under any circumstance, want to be associated with them.

You need to be nice to them because they will probably end up circulating stories about you if you’re not, and you don’t want to be too nice because others may begin to avoid you for fear of anyone finding out about their potential skeletons.

And I don’t think I need to tell you, but just in case you have a moment of weakness, don’t tell this person anything about your personal life unless you enjoy being shot with your own gun.

Office gossip tip #3
Remember that everyone’s a rat
Even if their intentions are good, no woman wants to go down as the “rotten bitch who speaks ill of others,” so if they can implicate others in their guilt, you can bet they will.

Whether you’re out for drinks after work or are just talking about Jim and his itchy crotch in passing, there’s a good chance that if the person you’re speaking with speaks with someone else, your name will be mentioned. Keeping your mouth shut and your ears open is always your best bet.

Office gossip tip #4
Don’t badmouth anyone

We all have bad days, no doubt, but even if your boss is the biggest prick this side of porn, you should do your best not to run off at the mouth to the first person you run into.

In anger, we tend to say things we don’t mean, but what we sometimes don’t realize is that, once they’re said, we can’t take them back. And if you must tell someone how angry you are, call your boyfriend or your best friend and do your bitching.

Speaking ill of anyone at work to your colleagues will not help you in any way.

Office gossip tip #5
Don’t chastise gossipers
People who gossip thrive off it and if you even attempt to put a stop to it via a confrontation, chances are that things will not work out in your favor.

Not only will this person begin to badmouth you and perhaps even make things up about you, but there’s a good chance that others will believe them, making you seem like a terrible woman.

Your best bet is to be nice to these kinds of people and steer clear of them as often as you can.

Office gossip tip #6
Deal with rumors about you ASAP

If rumors begin to swirl about your recent need to tell your colleague that your boss is incompetent (or even impotent), it’s up to you to clear your name by confronting the persons involved. If you don’t deal with it, things may get worse.

Without starting an argument, simply tell the parties that matter that the rumors are false and you would simply like to clear the air. If the gossip is not false, however, you need to own up to what you did and apologize.

Office gossip tip #7
Remember that everyone has an agenda
There are a sneaky few in every company whose sole mission is to plant seeds in your head and others’ heads in order to create conflict and come out on top of the situation.

If anyone ever eggs you on about what you think of so and so, be the bigger woman and say only good things - even if you don’t mean them. It’s better to be a hypocrite and be respected than to be honest and be disliked.

Avoid office gossip

The best thing you can do in any situation is to listen 95% of the time and speak only 5% of the time. This way, you can ensure that you won’t say anything you’ll regret and maintain your good reputation.

Tyson Beckford Biography

Tyson Craig Beckford was born on December 19, 1970, in Bronx, New York, but was raised in Rochester and Jamaica.

Growing up mulatto (his mother is part Chinese; his dad is Jamaican) wasn’t easy for Beckford as he was constantly ridiculed for his looks. Being raised on the unforgiving streets of New York sucked Beckford into a life of gangs and violence.

Tyson Beckford Signs With Ralph Lauren

His luck changed in 1991, however, when the editor of the famed hip-hop magazine, The Source, spotted him. Beckford was quickly signed to a New York modeling agency and, by 1993, signed a two-year exclusive modeling contract with Ralph Lauren for the Polo Sports line. Before he knew it, Beckford’s face could be seen on billboards and in magazines all over the world.

In 1995, VH1 named Tyson Beckford the Model of the Year, and one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People In The World, and he began working with the likes of Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein.

Tyson Beckford In Zoolander

After appearing in music videos for Toni Braxton, Mia X, Notorious B.I.G. and Shaquille O’Neal, Beckford felt compelled to get into acting and wanted to star in film. So, naturally, he began to study acting.

By the time 2000 rolled around, Beckford had begun to get bit parts in movies like Boricua’s Bond and Zoolander, but they were only cameos.

In 2002, Beckford began to land meatier roles in films like Pandora’s Box and Gully. And in 2003, Beckford starred alongside Laurence Fishburne and Orlando Jones in Biker Boyz.

Tyson Beckford Sues Diddy

But it wasn’t until 2005 that Beckford began to land roles in major film productions like Into The Blue, starring Jessica Alba and Paul Walker.

In June 2005, Tyson Beckford was in a serious car accident when a tractor trailer rear ended him and he ended up in the hospital with severe damage to the right-side of his face. Luckily, there was no scarring and Tyson was able to get back to his career.

In August 2005, Beckford filed a lawsuit against Sean Diddy Combs and his clothing label Sean John, claiming that the company was using his likeness without paying him. Word has it, however, that the two have since patched up the problem, although there’s no word on the lawsuit having been dropped.

It was due, in part, to this lawsuit that Beckford decided to retire from modeling altogether, he claims.

Beckford was busy starring in the movie Dream Street and donated $1 to the production of a documentary called The 1 Second Film, which officially makes him a producer of the doc.

And Tyson’s path into movie stardom is still hot, as he’s set to star opposite Tatyana Ali in Hotel California in 2008.

Tyson wanted Vanessa Minnillo

On the personal front, Tyson tried to make the moves on Vanessa Minnillo (Nick Lachey’s girlfriend) in June 2006, which almost resulted in a barroom brawl. Luckily, Tyson listened to reason and left Vanessa alone.

For now, Tyson is happy to take care of his son Jordan (born in 1998) and live every day like it’s his last.

7 Sins Business Women Commit

By Amanda Rice

You’re a professional woman with everything going for you. You’re smart, you’re strong and you’re beautiful… so why aren’t you at the top yet? What is taking so long?

The answers might be found in the little things you’re doing. Check out seven of the biggest sins of business women and learn how to avoid committing them at all costs.

Make sure your professional career soars in the right direction by avoiding these common sins of business women.

Sins of business women #1
Not doing your homework

Walking into any situation without having done your research first is simply unacceptable. With a world of information right at your fingertips, saying that you “just didn’t know” nowadays won’t fly in the business world.

Before any meeting, find out what will be discussed and spend some time on the Internet researching the topic at hand. As well, whenever you’re asked to do something, don’t every say that you have no idea how to go about it. The world is your oyster and you can find out everything you need to know with the click of a button.

Sins of business women #2
Leading with your heart & not your head
The corporate world is a cutthroat one, no doubt, and there’s nothing wrong with having heart, but there’s a time and a place for sympathy and empathy.

More often than not, you need to deal with business matters without emotion, simply because most guys are waiting for you to have an emotional moment so they can call you on it and keep you from a promotion because of your “high” estrogen levels.

It’s awful that proving yourself includes having to become somewhat cold-hearted in the workplace, but if you’re surrounded by men, you need to ease up on using your heart to make decisions. Passion is better used in the bedroom rather than the boardroom.

You’d also do well to stop asking everyone’s opinion before you make a decision; this behavior makes you seem like you don’t trust yourself or want to evade blame should things not work out. Take risks and, more often than not, the results will be plentiful.

Sins of business women #3
Using your sex to get ahead
Even if you’re the smartest person in the room, if you dress provocatively, no one will hear a word you’re saying. Using sex to get ahead in business won’t work in most cases because, again, you’re distinguishing yourself from the men in a negative way.

Breasts, legs and butts are great assets to have when it comes time for formal parties and such, but using your body to get attention at work will not help you get ahead. In essence, it may even hinder your advancement.

It is in your best interest to dress like a beautiful, classy woman rather than a provocative one.

Sins of business women #4
Being a pushover
More often than not, when a woman is outspoken or assertive at work, she is considered a “bitch.” And many women would prefer to avoid inheriting such a name.

But trying to be nice to everyone and sacrificing your career in the process will leave you with much regret when promotion time rolls around.

Stand up for yourself, put yourself first as often as you can, and maintain professionalism around your colleagues, and there will be no merit in their calling you a bitch.

Also, speak up. There’s nothing wrong with voicing your opinion on something, especially if you’ve done your homework (see point 1). Just make sure that when you do so, you don’t crush any egos – diplomacy is your friend.

Sins of business women #5
Taking on more to prove yourself worthy

If you want to be considered for a higher position with the company, you should be delegating small tasks in order to free up your time for the more important deals and projects.

If you continue to take on the small stuff for others so that everyone thinks that you’re pulling your weight, you will remain in a mid-level position forever.

It’s time for you to start acting like a leader and you can do so by not taking on so many small tasks that you can’t focus on the big picture. The big picture, the one that rakes in the money, is where your bull’s eye should rest.

Sins of business women #6
Dressing unprofessionally
In the same vein as dressing provocatively, dressing in an unprofessional manner, no matter how casual the setting, will reflect negatively on you.

Make sure that your clothes are always clean, wrinkle-free, and smell great. Don’t pack on the make-up and style your hair in a simple fashion.

Sins of business women #7
Revealing too much about your personal life

We spend so much time at work that we sometimes lose ourselves and become too friendly with other staff members. But revealing too much about your personal life can be detrimental to your career.

It’s one thing to reveal that you’re married with two kids; it’s a whole other thing to tell your colleagues that you and your husband haven’t had sex in two months because the kids never give you a moment’s peace. Something like that can get around the office quickly and place you in a different, less professional light.

Keep your personal life personal.

Break the sins of business women

Women may have been taking on business careers for years now, but there are still a few intricacies that can make or break your career with a company. And if you can maintain professionalism without hiding your femininity, then you’ll be all the richer for it – both figuratively and literally. Just make sure you avoid these sins of business women at all costs.

Krav Maga - Martial Art For Women

By Vanita Gautum

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art that has been gaining popularity due to its self-defense and hand-to-hand combat characteristics.

What makes Krav Maga such a fantastic art is that, as a woman, it’s always good to know how to defend yourself in a dire situation against a much bigger opponent. And the bonus of Krav Maga is that those who practice it often develop a lean, toned physique.

So if you’re prepared to mimic Jennifer Garner’s character, Sydney Bristow, in Alias and Jennifer Lopez’s character, Slim Hiller, in Enough, then let’s get started.

Origin of Krav Maga

Krav Maga, which is loosely translated from Hebrew as “close combat” originated in Hungary-Czechoslovakia in the 1930s by a man named Imi Lichtenfeld, and was taught to the Jewish community to help them defend themselves against the fascist militias.

When Lichtenfeld moved to Israel (known then as the British Mandate of Palestine), he began teaching this method of combat to the underground Jewish army.

As time passed and the need for military combat became less important, Krav Maga began to take on different undertones and began reaching the mainstream public as a wonderful self-defense and exercise course.

It was only after 1985, however, that Krav Maga schools and classes began popping up all over the world.

A typical Krav Maga class

The objective of Krav Maga is to help women learn how to defend herself (rape prevention) in the midst of distractions and under worst-case circumstances (e.g. fighting against a few girls, with one arm being held behind your back, or against someone with a weapon).

Practitioners of Krav Maga must learn how to go from defending oneself to attacking the opponent(s). But don’t be fooled; Krav Maga is intensely aerobic.

During a given class, you will be paired up with a partner. One of you will hold pads with which to defend and the other will be on the attack. This practice helps the attacker fight with all her strength and the defender understand what it feels like to get kicked and punched.

Classes last about an hour at a time and start with aerobic activity that includes a drill designed to get your heart rate up. Then the instructor will take you through about two or three self-defense tactics.

Once you’re shown these techniques, you will spend a good amount of time practicing them. Usually, near the end of the class, you will have a final drill that incorporates the defense techniques with aerobic movements.

Some classes will use fog machines or blaring music in order to teach you how to concentrate on how to defend yourself despite outside distractions.

Finally, you will also be taught physical and verbal skills so that you can avoid letting the situation escalate into violence.

Where are Krav Maga classes offered?

From Alabama to Toronto, classes are offered throughout North America and the world, and you can find a class being offered in your area by visiting KravMaga-Clubs.com. And if there are currently no classes being offered in your city, you can inquire about the teaching online.

Variants of Krav Maga

As Krav Maga has changed somewhat over the years, variants of the martial art have also come to be. One of these variants is Haganah, an art that teaches you how to take on an adversary when you are at a size disadvantage.

Many elements of Krav Maga remain in the art, but this art takes things a step further by teaching students different ways to escape things like choke holds and bear hugs.

Another variant is called Krav Magen, or Kami, created by Eli Avikzar in 1989. Additions to this art include being able to defend yourself without sustaining an injury and using the quickest way possible to neutralize your opponent.

Get your Krav Maga on

If you enjoy martial arts in general, this one is designed to help you avoid and deal with violence, and you can learn to protect yourself at all times.

And the best part is, you can look maintain your feminine appeal while you do it all.

Best Mascaras

By Danielle Lemay

With the myriad of mascara options floating around cosmetics counters of late, it’s quite difficult to figure out which ones are the best mascaras. With promises of lengthening, volumizing, curling, and giving the illusion that you have more lashes than you actually do, mascara is an essential part of eye enhancement.

But which one should you buy? Which are the best mascaras on the market? Well, it all depends on what kind of lashes you have and how you want to enhance them.

No matter your eyelash situation, though, there’s no need to worry; there’s something out there that’s perfect for you.

Note: All amounts are in US dollars.

What you have: Short lashes
Best mascaras #1
Lengthening mascara

Although some people think it’s a gimmick, thanks to their thick bristles, lengthening mascaras allow for more mascara to be applied to your lashes - especially to the tips of your lashes, where it’s most important.

Recommended mascara: Lancome Definicil – approximately $21
Recommended waterproof mascara: Shu Uemura – approximately $23

What you have: Straight lashes
Best mascaras #2

Curling mascara (and eyelash curler)
Using a heated eyelash curler, curl your lashes before applying any mascara, then use a curling mascara to further curl your lashes and keep them looking great all day long.

Recommended mascara: Agnes B Cil Festival Mascara – approximately $13
Recommended waterproof mascara: Estee Lauder Illusionist Curling Mascara – approximately $21
Recommended eyelash curler: Talika Heated Eyelash Curler

What you have: Thin lashes
Best mascaras #3
Volumizing mascara

If thin lashes are your problem, you definitely need a mascara that will darken and thicken your lashes instantly, leaving you with full, defined lashes.

Recommended mascara: Bourjois Pump Up The Volume – approximately $13
Recommended waterproof mascara: Bourjois Pump Up The Volume Waterproof – approximately $13

About waterproof mascara

Many women who use waterproof mascara complain that it doesn’t come off entirely for days and that they end up losing lashes whenever they use it. And while that may be true, if you use a waterproof mascara remover and a swab, you can remove the makeup without causing any damage to your lashes.

I wouldn’t recommend using it every day, however, simply because there’s no need to and it is, after all, more difficult to remove than the non-waterproof variety.

Non clumping mascara

If you don’t want your mascara to get clumpy on your eyes, here are a few tips to follow:

Best mascaras tip #1
Apply the second or third coat right away

Don’t let your mascara dry up before you apply another coat, otherwise you will get clumps on your lashes guaranteed.

Best mascaras tip #2
Remove excess mascara

If the tip of the mascara brush has an excess amount of mascara, use a tissue to remove it and avoid a potential clump up.

Best mascaras tip #3
Don’t pump the wand
When applying mascara, don’t pump the wand in and out of the brush like a madwoman before you apply, you will cause the mascara on the brush to dry and get wet and dry and get wet, and that leads to clumping.

When to throw mascara out

So when should your mascara get the old heave ho? Typically, it would be between two to four months, even if you barely used it.

Once the seal of a mascara tube is opened, oxygen begins to pollute the makeup and it will begin to get clumpy and unhygienic, which may lead to eye infections.

Beauty editors’ favorite mascara

Finally, while there are many pricey mascaras that promise to give you the longest, strongest, sexiest lashes in the world, America’s No. 1 mascara has been the same one for years: Maybelline Great Lash.

Whether you opt for the waterproof variety or you just want to decorate your lashes with the regular kind, many American women swear by this mascara… and it’ll only run you about $5.

Keep the best mascaras

Keep your eyes looking beautiful and make sure to remove your eye makeup every night to keep your eyes looking as young as they can for as long as you can.

Spa Massages Explained

By Alicia Socorro

So you’ve decided that it’s time to start spoiling yourself, but when you grabbed a pamphlet from your local spa and noticed that there were a multitude of spa massages to choose from, you felt intimidated and decided that maybe that spa visit can wait.

Who can blame you, considering all these weird names and no explanations? Of course, if you keep putting it off, you will be missing out on the many benefits associated with spa massages… and there are many.

Spa massages are beneficial due to their muscle relaxation properties, stress alleviation, their ability to combat constipation and improve muscle tone, and, if performed regularly, can even reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Depending on what ails you or if you simply want to chill out for an hour and have someone rub you up and down, there are spa massages that is perfect for you.

First massage trip tips

If you’re paranoid about being completely naked, don’t worry, you can opt to leave your underwear on; leaving on any more than that will hinder the massage therapist’s ability to massage you effectively. You are covered with a sheet the entire time anyway.

If you’re more comfortable being massaged by a woman, call ahead and request one.

You can keep exact change with you so that you can tip the massage therapist or you can leave a tip with the front desk before you leave.

Tell the therapist if there’s a certain area of your body that aches.

If you’re uncomfortable with the music, the pressure being applied, or anything else, tell the therapist and he or she will be more than happy to make the necessary adjustments.

If you want to stay quiet or carry on a conversation during the massage, the therapist will follow suit.

Shower beforehand. It is important that your body is clean for the massage; otherwise the therapist may refuse to massage you.

Spa massages #1
Swedish

This massage technique involves rolling and kneading strokes. Using oil, the massage therapist spends his or her time performing movements that will leave you feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated.

Swedish benefits: Stimulates circulation and helps the body relax.

Spa massages #2
Shiatsu
This traditionally Japanese massage is designed to use your life force, or Chi, to help your body become more harmonized. The massage therapist uses their thumbs to locate strategic areas on the body and use acupressure to refresh and restore balance to the body and mind. This massage is sometimes performed on a floor mat with no massage oil.

Shiatsu benefits: Reduces stress and fatigue, and minimizes back pain, shoulder and neck problems, headaches, constipation, and menstrual cramps.

Spa massages #3
Lymphatic drainage

With a self-explanatory objective, this type of massage persuades the lymph capillaries to open and close, which helps the body cleanse itself and begin a cell renewal process. With soft, circular motions, the massage therapist uses his or her fingertips to massage all the lymphatic areas on your body.

Lymphatic drainage benefits: Raises energy levels, removes toxins from the body, reduces cellulite, and improves immune function.

Spa massages #4
Reflexology
This massage is based on the belief that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that correspond to the entire body. The massage therapist uses their thumbs and index fingers to apply pressure to these reflex points. After the pressure, you will be treated to a relaxing foot and hand massage.

Reflexology benefits: Improves circulation, cleanses your body of toxins and impurities, and restores energy.

Spa massages #5
Aromatherapy
With the objective of combining the sense of smell and the sense of touch, this type of massage aims to relax you with a soft massage and lightly scented oils.

Aromatherapy benefits: Releases pressure and stress from the body and mind, and restores a sense of peace.

Spa massages #6
Deep tissue

Using a kneading motion, the massage therapist reaches deep down into muscle tissues to correct problems in the body including whip lash, backaches and other muscle injuries. The different types of deep tissue massage include Trager, Rolfing, Feldenkrais, and Hellerwork. It is possible to feel sore the day after this type of massage.

Deep tissue benefits: Realigns muscles.

Spa massages #7
Reiki
This type of massage existed in ancient Tibetan times and was brought to North America in the 1950s; it involves healing through light touch. Chakras, or energy centers, are aligned and the massage therapist is trained to serve as a vessel by which your life force is revitalized.

Reiki benefits: Relaxes the entire body and heals general maladies.

Spa massages #8
Stone therapy
Stone therapy, or thermotherapy, combines heat and pressure with the use of smooth stones placed on strategic areas on the back.

Stone therapy benefits: Relaxes the body, promotes healing, and releases stress and toxins.

Spa massages

Spas offer a whole lot more than just massages, but if it’s your first time, get a massage at a variety of spas before settling on one.

Some people think that massages are a luxury, and it’s true, they are, but they are also very beneficial to the body and you shouldn’t wait until you get a gift certificate before visiting one.

Get your rub on.

Why Women Cheat

By Ashley Levine

Have you cheated on any of your boyfriends? Do you have any friends who have? Chances are you answered “yes” to at least one of those questions. Which begs another question: What is going on? Why do women cheat?

We live in an era where the female orgasm is not just the “luck of the draw,” and it seems that in an effort to become equal to men, we’ve also managed to beat them in the cheating game.

Growing up, I was told that men are pigs and they all cheat, when, in fact, most of the women I knew were messing around. And if you put things in perspective, it makes sense.

Women cheat because of options

Every day of our lives, most of us get hit on by guys, some more than others, mind you, but there’s no doubt that women get hit on way more often than men do. Again, there are exceptions (the Brad Pitts of the world), but, typically, men approach and women choose.

So if a man never gets hit on and women are constantly hit on, and if both are not satisfied with their current relationships, who do you think has an easier time wandering?

Now if the man who wants to cheat actively pursues another woman, that’s no better, but no matter how you arrive at your situation, cheating from either side is never a great thing for the person being betrayed.

Why women cheat

So why do women cheat - what brings it on? Are we rotten human beings who are so self-absorbed that we can’t see past the tips of our own noses? Well, yes and no.

When women cheat, they usually tend to blame their man. It’s quite laughable actually, when the cheater thinks of herself as the victim. In fact, if you cheat, it is on your shoulders because no one makes you cheat; that’s a decision you make all by yourself.

Even if your boyfriend or husband treats you like crap, neglects you, won’t try new things, stops being fun, gets fat, or whatever other reason you can come up with, the fact of the matter is that you have no one to blame for your actions but yourself.

If you found out your guy was cheating and he came back at you with a list of the things you did wrong and told you that you essentially “forced” him to cheat, he would get a taste of your Gucci heels. But when the tables turn and women cheat, suddenly we’re the victims. That’s not right.

To cheat is human?

Cheating is something that almost every woman I know has done at some point in her life. With men, I couldn’t honestly say that they would all be honest with me, but more often than not, many men are faithful by choice and not for a lack of options, despite what Chris Rock says.

Personally, I have not cheated nor will I ever. I am of the opinion that if you’re not happy in your relationship, you should recognize that before you let another man inside you. And because I would never want to feel that kind of betrayal and I am a firm believer in karma, I would never inflict that kind of pain on any man.

Now, as for having been cheated on, I really can’t say. I can tell you that I don’t think any man has ever cheated on me, but the truth is, I will never know.

If you have cheated on a significant other, did you ever really ask yourself why? Why do women cheat? Why did you cheat? Did you blame him for it? Did you ever tell him about it? It’s tough to think of yourself as having done a bad deed and, most of the time, we console and convince ourselves that we had no other choice, but didn’t we?

So it’s a matter of fact that women cheat. We are not victims. We have come a long way as women and, while some think it only fair to give men a dose of what we have been enduring for years, the truth is that adulterous women have been around since the dawn of time. So that doesn’t hold water.

Preaching to the choir

If you’re going to cheat, I am not here to condemn you for it, but before you do, maybe you need to figure out why you would even want to, and once you do, you might want to exit the relationship beforehand and avoid cheating at all.

Or, maybe you are happy in the way you choose to live your life and will continue to believe that whenever you give in to another man, it is your current man’s fault.

But the next time you’re about to declare that “all men are pigs,” you might want to rethink that statement. After all, you’re proving that women cheat.

6 Cardio Exercise Safety Tips

By Lori Ryan

Cardiovascular exercise isn’t just great for the heart; it also energizes you and helps you to burn fat, all the while improving your body’s circulation. But just as important as cardio exercise, is cardio exercise safety.

Whether you head out for a bike ride or opt to get your heart rate up at gym, exercising is always a great idea.

But before you run off to the gym and start running on a treadmill, there are some cardio exercise safety tips you need to keep in mind if you want to remain at peak health.

Cardio exercise safety tip #1
Drink plenty of water

Constant exercise that causes you to sweat depletes your body of water quickly. It’s important that you drink plenty of water before, during and after you exercise.

If you don’t drink water, you might get dizzy and feel weak, and that’s the last thing you want when you’re exercising. Replenishing your body with water constantly will ensure higher energy to keep your workout going strong.

And keep in mind that you don’t need to down liters and liters at a time; a sip or two is enough to replenish the body. Take a sip every few minutes.

Cardio exercise safety tip #2
Stop if you feel pain

No pain, no gain is a great motto if you lift weights and are trying to increase muscle mass. When you’re doing cardio, however, you should never feel uncomfortable pain.

If your chest begins to hurt, you feel like you’re panting too heavily, or you begin to get dizzy, stop your workout immediately and walk around the area slowly until you bring your heart rate down to normal levels.

Feeling like you don’t want to go on is one thing – that’s a matter of discipline – but if you begin to feel sharp pains in your body, you should stop exercising and make an appointment to see your doctor.

Cardio exercise safety tip #3
Get to know the equipment
Before you hop onto a treadmill or take your mountain bike out for an excursion, get acquainted with the machine you’re about to use.

If it’s something you own, check out the manual; there may be elements to the mechanism that you would never have discovered otherwise.

If it’s not something you own, play around with the buttons and read all the information on it before you get started.

The last thing you want to do is get injured and end up bedridden for months, so make sure you understand how to use any and all pieces of equipment.

Cardio exercise safety tip #4
Figure out your heart rate
There is such a thing as overexertion and you don’t want to go there. You might think that working really hard is great, but if you maintain your maximum heart rate for an extended period of time, your body will not be able to circulate oxygen throughout your body quickly enough and you may begin to feel like you’re not getting any air.

Some cardio machines offer the option of figuring out your heart rate for you, but they are guesstimating at best. I strongly recommend purchasing a heart rate monitor so that you always know how elevated your heart rate is.

Cardio exercise safety tip #5
Don’t eat right before
Eating a snack about 30 minutes before you begin a cardio program is fine, but eating a full meal beforehand is not recommended because most of your oxygen and blood stores will end up working on digesting the food you ate.

If you did eat a full meal and want to work out, I suggest you hold off for about 60 to 90 minutes, especially if the workout you plan on doing is intense.

Cardio exercise safety tip #6
Plan for hot weather

If you’re about to go outside in the middle of summer to get a sweaty workout in, you need to keep in mind that you need to give your body a couple of weeks to get used the blaring heat.

Do your best not to train between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the summer, as the temperature is most elevated and the sun is strongest at these times.

Bring a big bottle of water with you and drink about eight ounces every 30 minutes or so. As well, if you’re in the midst of an intense activity like tennis, take a break every hour or so.

Cardio exercise safety first

If you plan on getting fit, then I congratulate you, but what’s more important than looking hot in a bikini is being able to put it on without help. So make sure that you follow these cardio exercise safety tips at all times and have an awesome workout!

7 Bad Breath Cures

By Tara Fraser

You’re pretty, you have a great body, a nice complexion, and great teeth. There’s just one problem; your breath is atrocious.

Save for halitosis, which usually stems from the intestines, bad breath can be easily treated and, with some time and dedication, you can kiss bad breath goodbye for good.

Bad breath cures #1
Visit the dentist
I know it can get expensive and I have yet to meet a woman who likes going to the dentist, but it is important to get a cleaning every six months in order to avoid plaque buildup and gingivitis, among other things.

The cleaning you get from a dentist feels unlike anything else and if you want to make sure that you breath stays fresh, this is one important step you cannot let fall by the wayside.

Bad breath cures #2
Avoid sugar

Without eliminating it completely from your diet, if you know that you are going on a date or that you will be in close proximity with people’s noses while you talk to them, make sure that you avoid sugar that day.

Sugar is used like food by bacteria that live in your mouth and at the back of your throat, which is what causes offensive odors. So if you opt to chew mint gum, make sure it’s sugar-free.

Bad breath cures #3
Floss & scrape

Brushing your teeth is a given and I don’t need to go into why it’s necessary to brush at least twice a day. But what most people don’t do is floss. I know it’s a bore, but it doesn’t take more than a minute and can definitely help you eliminate unwanted stank you’re your mouth.

As well, you can use your toothbrush or invest in a tongue scraper to get rid of any bacteria that’s on your tongue. If your tongue is white, then you especially need to get started on brushing your tongue ASAP. A white tongue may be the result of yeast buildup, as well as other, more serious medical conditions.

Bad breath cures #4
Eat parsley

After every meal, have a bunch of parsley snips on hand that you can chew and swallow. Rinse your mouth with water to avoid getting any stuck in your teeth.

Sometimes, if you don’t have gum and can’t brush your teeth, parsley works in the same way by neutralizing your breath.

Bad breath cures #5
Eat & drink well

Hunger and thirst can lead to excess bad breath (this is what causes morning breath), and you’ll begin to notice that whenever you feel hungry or thirsty your saliva will even begin to taste bad.
Eat something small every couple of hours so that you never feel like you’re starving and try to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day (e.g. if you weigh 120 pounds, half of that is 60, so you need 60 ounces, or almost eight glasses of water each day).

Bad breath cures #6
Gargle with hydrogen peroxide

Although it sounds crazy, gargling with 1/3 cup hydrogen peroxide (3%) and 2/3 cup water will neutralize your breath for up to eight hours.

When you do it, you will have this weird taste in your mouth, which is normal. It will release oxygen in your mouth which kills the anaerobic bacteria.

Don’t do it daily, however, as it may begin to eat away at your tooth enamel.

Bad breath cures #7
Clean your colon
You are probably wondering what your backside has to do with your mouth, but if you think about it, it’s not that difficult to figure out. When your intestines are clogged up, terrible stenches release themselves via your anus or your mouth.

If you cleanse your colon, however, chances are your breath and gas problem will improve. That said, slowly add more fiber to your diet to ensure natural and consistent intestinal cleansing. If you prefer more immediate effects, see your doctor.

Fresh breath is great

If you do all of the above and still find yourself having issues with your breath, it may be indicative of something more serious and it’s probably best if you visit a doctor.

Bad breath is a problem most of us deal with on a morning-to-morning basis, but with some time and dedication, we can all make sure that every man we come in contact with revels in our sweet-smelling mouth.
